Why Summer is a Great Time to Buy a Home

If you’re looking for a new home, summer might be the right time to get into buying mode.

From inventory growth to seasonal changes, there’s a few solid reasons why summer is the way to go. The obvious draws of warmer weather come into play here, but so do the ever-important effects of timing and neighborhood feel. Social events and school schedules might not be top of mind, but they can be just as important as the home itself.

Here’s just a few reasons why summer is the right time to check out some new homes:

More Inventory

Sellers tend to list their homes in the spring and summer, so there’s typically more inventory available. When you start your search, don’t be surprised to find a lot more quality homes that you didn’t notice before.

More Daylight

More daylight is a good thing if you love the outdoors, but it’s helpful for browsing neighborhoods, too. Extra time before the sun goes down means you can get eyes on more properties after work. There’s also more time to get an inspection in, not just for the home, but to see how the neighborhood around it looks, too.

Active Neighborhood

Summertime is prime time for outside events, which means you can really get a sense of what your neighbors and nearby activities will be like. There’s nothing like a little people-watching to help you decide if you’ll fit into a certain area.

School Schedules

With school on break, summertime is the perfect window to get readjusted before the next year starts. If you’re making a drastic move, you’ll want to give your kids some time to get used to the new neighborhood as they start in a new school system rather than piling it all on at once.

Beat the Winter Weather

Finally, just like the school season, you should pay attention to the regular seasons as well. Moving into a home before winter gives you time not just to enjoy the home through the summer, but to get ahead on any necessary projects the home might need in time for the holidays.

As you can see, summertime has a lot going for it when it comes to making a purchase. So why delay it any longer? If you’re giving some thought to buying a new home, now’s the time to start looking.
