“We just felt like because we're very focused on giving that it would be a good way to give client gifts, donating to somewhere in their honor. We started researching and I just really liked Feeding America.”
Feeding America is a national organization that seeks to combat hunger in the United States. Dee Dee talked to us more about the significance of the nonprofit and why it’s so significant to The Zachos Team.
Previously, we talked about the Good Samaritan Center located in Douglas County and how it operates on a local level, photographed above. With Feeding America being another organization focused on hunger, it seemed like a natural progression to continue the trend of trying to combat this widespread issue.
“The Atlanta Community Food Bank works in conjunction with Feeding America, and the Good Samaritan Center gets the majority of their food from the Atlanta Community Food Bank,” Dee Dee explains. “So people who are donating to this national organization end up helping all the local organizations throughout the country.”
As mentioned before, The Zachos Team donates to Feeding America in honor of our clients at the closing table. Many Realtors provide a gift to their clients there, which we often do as well, but because we’re so focused around giving it was important to let that show through all aspects of our business. In addition to closing a deal, our clients can walk away knowing that they’ve been part of helping a good cause.
“We've donated a lot through the years, because with our closing gifts, we provide a generous donation in the name of each of our clients. And we've been doing that since 2014.”
The tangible benefits to these donations can of course be seen at the local level. Dee Dee cites the Good Samaritan Center once again as proof that Feeding America is making the most of its donations.
“Feeding America has a really good reputation for actually going to the people, and I know for sure it does, because I see firsthand at the Good Samaritan Center that it's being funneled to people who show up to pick up their food. I could walk in the Good Samaritan Center and see someone get food that came from donations to Feeding America.”
And the prevalence of food insecurity can have major impacts on children as well. Dee Dee recalls that her time working with a church backpack ministry opened her eyes to how widespread this issue really is.
“If these kids don't get these backpacks, they're gonna be hungry in the evening, they're gonna be hungry on the weekends. And then in the summertime It's even more important, because they previously were getting at least one hot meal at school. So that just got to me, it just hurt to think about.”
If you’d like to take the next steps to help with food insecurity, consider a donation to Feeding America by clicking here. The Zachos Team is proud to help with this cause, and we hope we can drive others to do the same.
“I would think anybody who wants to help people who have food insecurity, that's a really good place to start. A lot of people don't know who to contact locally, or again, they might feel a little nervous that their money's not going to actually go where they want it to go. But with Feeding America, they can feel confident that it's actually going to benefit the people who are hungry.”
