There’s a standout university on the west side of Georgia, and it’s named exactly what you would expect.

University of West Georgia is centrally located right next to Carrollton. As frequent visitors and agents in the area, we wanted to show some of the benefits of taking a more academic approach to the county. You might not be sold on settling down there yourself, but what if you’ve got kids looking for their next steps towards education?

That might be reason enough for a second opinion.

The Best Features of West Georgia

Academics

Despite its size, UWG offers an impressive breadth of courses to discover. With hundreds of classes and degrees from Bachelor’s to Doctorate, the college is set on helping you achieve your professional dreams.

Sports

With 17 varsity sports practiced, it’s easy to catch a game on campus no matter what you’re into. The coliseum is a great place to catch a basketball game, and a large stretch of land on the west end of campus is where you can find the stadium, soccer and softball fields, and other training grounds.

Campus Life

It’s not all about homework; UWG has 27 Greek life organizations and over 200 registered student organizations. That creates plenty of places to make connections and find friends to help you through the college experience.

University Recreation

The university rec center is a great place for structured activities on campus, serving as a hub for team and intramural sports, guided fitness classes, rock climbing, and even e-sports. In addition, the main campus is over 600 acres, meaning there’s plenty of green space for running, biking, or just enjoying the sun.

Proximity to Carrollton

While it’s more than just a college town, Carrollton functions as a great hub for UWG students, with most spots on campus just a few minutes’ drive from Adamson Square. We’ve talked at length about this spot and others downtown in separate blogs.

Rental Opportunities

With a large base of college students and a close proximity to student and downtown life, UWG is a perfect place to search for rental opportunities. If you’re looking to purchase, you could buy a house for your kids and then keep it as a rental investment for future students or sell it. There’s a lot of versatility in the housing market around college areas, and Carrollton is a great place to take advantage of it.

As you can see, the University of West Georgia is a powerhouse of the West Georgia area for good reason. With the consistent draws of a major college and a walkable downtown all in one, it’s no surprise that you might be considering moving here.
