“When I decided to sell my home, he was the first person I called.”

Terry Burney is a recent client who trusted The Zachos Team with the sale of his home in Chapel Hill. We sat down with him to learn more about the process and the importance of trusting your agent.

“I think the buyers need to understand that you may have an expectation of one thing, but it's really important for you to listen to your realtor because they understand the market. They understand what's going on around the neighborhood. So I took his advice. I understood where he was coming from. He made it, he gave me options. And so I just, I said, you know, you make sense. Let's go with it.”

While Terry worked with us on a recent transaction, our story doesn’t start there; we first got in touch over a decade prior, showing the importance of working with someone who you can trust.

“Back in 2014 when the mortgage crisis hit, Paul’s signs were all over my neighborhood because people were trying to sell. So he was selling a lot of homes in my neighborhood. I gave him a call and just asked him about the process because I was thinking about selling at the time. He gave me some home prices and I said, well, I can't do that. Well I was going back and forth to Charlotte at the time and I said, ‘you know, Paul, I actually was thinking about just letting the bank have this home.’”

“And he gave me some advice that really helped me, I'll be honest with you. He told me, ‘have you thought about renting the home?’”

The Zachos Team might be a real estate team at its core, but some of our biggest strengths lie within our deep network of connections all across the West Georgia area and beyond.

“He gave me the perfect renter. He said, I got somebody that I want you to meet. He introduced us, we met, we talked, and she was the perfect renter for me. So for two years she rented my home, and it was all thanks to Paul because I didn't know how to even think about starting the process of renting a home. But he gave me an opportunity, he gave me an option that I never really thought about for that home.”

And as you might already know, these connections don’t stop at buyers and sellers; with a focus on construction experience, our knowledge of local contractors, lenders, and more means you can get the best of every world.

“What they excelled at was communication of information about the questions that I had. And also putting me in touch with some contractors that would help me kind of spruce up my home. It was in really good shape, but you know, whenever you have an inspection done, they're going to nickel and dime or just find little tidbits of things. He had some people that he worked with that he's been having a lot of success with, so he put me in touch with them, and they did the work. So the communication as well as getting my home ready to sell was awesome.”

Finally, Terry says that keeping realistic expectations is key for making the deal you’re looking for.

“Don't have high expectations for selling a home. I knew going into this that I set a goal for myself. I said, here's what I think it will sell for. I talked to Paul. He actually told me it would probably sell for a little more, but I was optimistic about that. And after I sat on the market for a little bit, I reached back out to him. I said maybe we need to kind of drop the price a little bit, and he thought it was a good idea. So we did that and it sold.”

“I had some friends that told me, hey, maybe you should look at other realtors. And I said no, Paul knows my area, he knows my neighborhood. He's helped me out of a jam once. He's given me advice other times, going through the process. I asked him questions, he understood, he helped me out. I felt really comfortable with any advice that Paul gave me, I was on it.”
